About Derek
Derek Rodwell is the founder and principal of Rodwell Law. Born and raised in Canada, Derek moved down to the United States in 2010 to attend the University of North Dakota and play for the varsity men's hockey team. At UND, Derek obtained his bachelor's in business administration, focusing on entrepreneurship, was a four-year letter winner, and was named to the All-WCHA Academic Team and the Academic All-NCHC honors.
After graduating from the University of North Dakota in 2014, Derek moved to Colorado to pursue a professional hockey career with the Colorado Eagles. When his professional hockey career was cut short after a couple of seasons due to injuries, Derek began working in Denver as an oil and gas landman. While running a couple of start-up businesses, Derek attended the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctor. At law school, Derek served the community through the Wills Lab and received the Scholastic Excellence award for Constitutional Law, Negotiating Natural Resource Agreements, and International & Comparative Petroleum Law.
